The Nordkap 476 - {part 14}

      With the Gothenborg well under way, I felt that it was time to switch gears for a spell.  I would do some work on the Nordkap.....it would also give me time to think up an attack plan for what I want to do with the embellishment with the stern deck quarters on the Gothenborg...the most critical of the upgrades.  I began with the bow of the Nordkap, having already assembled the bow cap and the starboard side cap, the port side was the logical place to begin.  I started this in the same manner as I did with the starboard side, with the rail...from the existing rail, to the bow stem.

      As I was doing this, I slipped and broke the rail free near the bow cabin.  while this was drying, I started another aspect of the build.  for ease of step, I'll touch on that later......in keeping with the assembly of the bow in this build log.  after it was dry, I shaped the side cap for the bow and cemented it into place.

      After filler was added to the assembly, it needed time to dry.  I moved on to another aspect, the cabin opening.  I had made a couple of tracks for the cover boards that will close it off, when access is not required.  they were cemented into place.  I had some stained planks left over from the deck, so I used them for the cover boards.  the object here, is to put some of the boards in place and lay the others on the deck, giving the impression that they were removed to gain access to it.

      In the last picture, the top of the bow cap has been sanded flush with the cabin wall, as well as the two end caps.  a piece of pre-bent strip will be cemented along the top here, creating a sort of molding.  it will meet the two end cap parts, which will be cemented to the end caps, joining them together.  some sanding has been done to the bow, a progressive effort to shape both sides, so that they will match.

      Then, I thought I would drill out the holes for the gates......for a chuckle, I also set the anchor winch in place to check the relation, although I did this when the holes were marked out.  the fenders were fleshed out at this point as well......fitting them and then cementing them into place.

      The bow has been shaped, both side look very close to one another.  I was at work in the garage the other day, cleaning it up and getting all the stuff that belongs in the cellar....in the cellar.  then, I want to create a jig to lay the hull in, so sanding it won't be a problem.  then I can set about sealing and re-painting it, to give it the paint job it deserves.  until then, the assembly of the smaller parts will keep me busy.  the weather has been on the cool side here lately.......hopefully, it will warm up a bit, and I will feel better about bringing him out there to accomplish this.    AHOY!!!
